Summertime Death – Mons Kallentoft

I guess we are all looking for the next Girl With the Dragon Tattoo novel. This ain’t it.

Set in a Sweeden that is hotter than bloody Queensland, the novel gives us many voices – perhaps too many voices. The main character Malin Fors is pretty darn good but some of the narrative include the victims – post mortem. Young dead girls narrative just doesn’t do it for me in a crime novel. It becomes a bit difficult to feel for the victim once the deadly deed is done. The villain of the piece is pretty darn well drawn and suitably scary.

Enough with the sweltering heat in Sweeden and dead girls chattering in my ear – are we writing crime or horror? Well done crime is horrific enough without spirits chattering away.

If you don’t mind that stuff, it is well written but I won’t be going back for more.SDeath
